(7942) Flood probability
The probability of a flood of a given size being equalled or exceeded in a given year; a probability of 1 per cent would be a 100-year flood. A flood can be characterized by a number of hydrological parameters : maximum waterlevel, total flood volume, total bank overspill, duration of the flood. It will depend on local circumstances what parameter(s) is/are used in (a) frequency curve(s).
